Lee Rand
AdvisorLee Rand was a Partner at Sun Mountain Capital from 2009 through 2025 and remains involved with the Firm and its funds in an advisory capacity. During his tenure, Lee sat on the Investment Committees of all of the Firm’s investment programs and served as a board member of Sun Mountain portfolio companies Skorpios Technologies, iD90t, mPower, First Crop, and Relevant Traffic and as a board observer at 3D Glass Solutions. He continues to support several of these portfolio companies. Past investments include SinDelantal (acquired by HelloFood), Comet Solutions (acquired by Aras Corp.), JackRabbit Systems (acquired by SimpleView), TriLumina Corporation (acquired by Lumentum), and WePow (acquired by OutMatch).
Lee has experience starting and managing technology-related businesses at both start-ups and large corporations as well as investing in companies and funds in the US and abroad. Prior to joining Sun Mountain, Lee founded Knogee, a semantic search company, ran business development for Intel’s consumer electronics group, launched and managed the product marketing and standards team for Intel’s blade-based server initiatives, and led product management at semiconductor start-up Netboost (acquired by Intel). Lee also has business consulting experience, having worked at Ernst & Young early in his career and as an independent consultant brought in by investors and boards to work with start-ups on strategy and operations.
Lee has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a dual BA in computer science and mathematics from Cornell University.
